About five years ago, Shawn Fay — a fitness enthusiast and tech innovator — wanted an accurate measure of his body fat and lean muscle mass. But the only place to get a full body health scan or DEXA scan in the Seattle area was at the hospital. He found it expensive, frustrating, and difficult to get access to accurate and reliable health diagnostics in the Pacific Northwest.
The gold-standard technology already existed — DEXA has been the clinical benchmark for body composition and bone density measurement for decades. What didn't exist was a way to access it without a hospital visit and a bill that didn't match the simplicity of what the scan actually involved.

Nomad Fit Lab was founded in 2024. The concept was straightforward: put a clinical-grade GE Lunar DEXA scanner inside a custom-fitted mobile lab, bring it to gyms and neighborhoods on a regular schedule, and charge a price that makes repeat scanning practical — not a one-time splurge.

Every Nomad Fit Lab van is equipped with a GE Lunar DEXA scanner — the same clinical-grade equipment used in hospitals and research settings — installed in a custom-fitted mobile unit. The scan environment is clean, private, and purpose-built for the experience. You lie on a padded table inside the mobile lab. The scanner arm passes over you in about seven minutes. The technician walks you through your results before you leave.
